How One Sportscaster Lands 250+ Gigs Every Year

One of the biggest challenges in sports broadcasting today isn’t talent- it’s finding work.

That’s why I brought in Gabe Schray to work with me.

I’ve coached Gabe for years, and one day over lunch I told him, “You’re the missing link. You’re the part of this business we’re not teaching the way we need to.”

While many aspiring broadcasters are struggling to find their next opportunity, Gabe is out there working more than 250 play-by-play events every year. On top of his full-time career in marketing, he travels from state to state covering just about every sport imaginable.

A typical weekend for Gabe might include softball in Florida, wrestling in Georgia, lacrosse in South Carolina, and soccer in Tennessee.

So how does he land all these assignments?

Because Gabe understands marketing and networking as well as anyone I’ve ever worked with. He knows how to create opportunities instead of waiting for them.

That’s why I recruited Gabe to join me on this website and in our seminars.

One idea that Gabe has in writing freelance work is submitting examples of his spotting charts when he applies for jobs. Gabe says this gives him a huge advantage, because potential employers see a sample of his work ethic and the research he brings to the table.

Something else Gabe does to increase his play-by-play volume is to build personal relationships, which he can teach you how to do in a genuine way.

Just a pair of examples of how Gabe separates himself from the field. There are many other things Gabe does to get a leg up on the competition.

This is the part of the business nobody teaches. You earn your degree, but then what? How do you actually find jobs? How do you build relationships and create consistent freelance opportunities?

If you want to succeed in sports broadcasting, talent matters. But knowing how to find opportunities matters just as much.

Gabe and I are doing an upcoming seminar series on how to dramatically increase your workload.
